Who We Are
Hammocks Beach State Park offers a seasonal passenger ferry to one of North Carolina's pristine barrier islands- Bear Island. Ferry operation is from April through October.
While on Bear Island people can enjoy the day on the beach while taking in the bountiful sunshine and unique wildlife that visit the island and its surrounding waters. Dolphins, sea turtles, and pelicans are a frequent sight for the park visitors.
Bear Island also offer primitive backpack camping for those that want to have the experience of camping on a barrier island. With a limited number of sites reservations are highly encouraged. The park also offers a couple marked kayak trails through the adjacent marsh waters for those that would like to explore the area by water. These trails take you to Bear Island as well as nearby Huggins Island. Each trail offers you a chance to see sea turtles, dolphins, rays, and the occasional river otter up close!
