What We Do

Onslow Victims Center is a private, non-profit incorporated organization.  The Center was founded to serve the needs of battered women and their children; to provide a safe environment in the form of shelter and to provide assistance enabling women to carry out their long-range plans.

The Onslow Victims Center began in the fall of 1982.  A group of professionals began to address the problem of providing services to victims of domestic violence due to a need defined from statistics gathered from community organizations.  In the summer of 1983, a Board of Directors was established.  The Board was founded and incorporated as the Onslow Women’s Center, Inc.  Since that time the word county has been dropped from the name.

In addition to the Domestic Violence Program, Onslow Victims Center began acting as a rape crisis intervention center.  The primary goal is to provide victim support after the crisis of rape or sexual assault.

The purpose of the Center  is to provide a comprehensive program for women in crisis; to prevent the recurrence of violence against women through the development of differentiated services to meet the individual needs for these women and their children.

The Mission of the Onslow Victims Center (OVC)

is to provide crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault and to end all forms of interpersonal violence through education and prevention.
