Needs From: Volunteer Onslow

Often times when people pass away, they leave grieved loved ones behind. A Memory Bear Crafter is a special volunteer that will take the clothes of the person who has passed, and use them to create a teddy bear for their family. This helps to bring comfort to those who are grieving.

Sometimes patients need what we call a sensory Pad. These are typically home sewn pads with different items such as beads, textured fabrics, buttons, zippers, buckles etc. Sensory Pad Crafters help to make those pads for the patients that need them. This helps to ease patient anxiety, and supports the patients care team to ensure all Hospice patients are as comfortable as possible. 

Hospice Volunteering can take on many forms. One of those forms is office volunteering. This is for those who want to help contribute to the care of those in need, while not wanting to make the face to face visits with patients. If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!

Stitch up some good

Want to add a personal touch? Join The Cardinal Hospice Care Craft team, which knits, sews, crochets, and quilts gifts for hospice patients. Don’t sew? That’s okay, we have a no-sew blanket project too. The organization has a number of other ways volunteers can support our aging community.

If you paint, draw, or work with collage materials, try creating some room decorations for patients that are bed bound! What an amazing way to help brighten someones day.

Good with Pen and Paper?

Consider becoming a PenPal to a hospice patient in need of come companionship! Send letters from the comfort of your own home and brighten someones day. This is a great opportunity for busy individuals or students looking for a way to give back. 

Hospice volunteers provide patient care and support services through companionship. These services include reading to the client, watching movies, talking, and whatever special talents you may bring! We love matching volunteers to clients with similar interest. Do you play an instrument, sing, knit, or etc? Why not share your talents with members in hospice care who would enjoy your company. This position does require some travel and is not available for volunteers under the age of 18 unless accompanied by an adult.

Cardinal Hospice Care is looking for individuals, and their adorable animals, to provide pet therapy to patients. The volunteer would be expected to visit with hospice patients, accompanied by their certified support animal , to provide joy and a sense of companionship.  

The office volunteer provides indirect / office support services by answering phone calls, filing documents, and assisting administrative staff. This position is great for teenagers seeking SAT hours or volunteers looking to gain experience in office management. No experience is necessary!
