 Minimum Requirements to Join the Squad:

-14 years old

-Minimum 16hrs a month of volunteer time at the station

-Minimum attendance of 9/12 meetings a year

-Be able to complete and pass a background check (Not Disqualified if you have minor charges)

- Be able to obtain your EMT or your Technical Rescuer within 1-1.5 years of joining

Looking for teachers or retired teachers that would like to tutor struggling readers. We work with the individuals that have a learning difference such as Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and we work with a specific technique. We will provide the training and material. This volunteering can lead to a paid position as well as working towards a specialized certification.  We are looking for someone to be responsible and dependable. Someone with experience with children is a must. Hours are generally in the evening and some weekends. We are currently serving Onslow county including outside areas of Swansboro and Sneads Ferry.  Sessions are one hour at a time. Tutors will be using the Barton reading system or other OG based methods. We would like to highlight the wheel house we offer and our TEAM approach. We have several different areas and need someone to help with a budget for each area. We have started our SOAR Community Outreach program here at TCC working with individuals who are homeless/at-risk of homelessness and with a qualifying disability. 

SOAR is a federal program with DHHS and SAMHSA, and is managed in North Carolina by the NC Coalition to End Homelessness. The goal of the SOAR program is to advocate for the individual by coordinating all of the medical records for the client and learning the client's history and how their disability limits their functionality. The Case Manager then composes a detailed Medical Summary Report that tells the SSA/DDS about the client and their history and provides the Examiner with the information they need to determine the clients eligibility.

SOAR Case Managers must be trained through NCCEH and can later become Certified.

Mentors

Develop a partnership through which the volunteer will share his/her knowledge, skills, information, and perspective to encourage personal and professional growth with an individual.  Motivate mentees to face challenges.  Help mentees overcome difficulties through positive feed-back.  Help mentees set realistic goal.

Volunteer will meet with an individual at least once a week for a minimum of one hour no more than four.  Mentor is required to call individual twice a week.

We are currently seeking a person to plan and help take our event portion of our organization to another level. He/She would be creating fundraisers & promotional materials, planning community events, and assuring that our community is well aware of the events we have going on.

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a trained community member appointed by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children and youth petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. The GAL is paired with an Attorney Advocate to represent the child’s best interest in court.

We are in need of about 40 volunteers to help proctor End of Grade Exams on May 31st, June 1st, June 5th and June 6th from 7:00-11:00 . The Child Advocacy Center, which is located at The Onslow County Partnership for Children is in need of cases of water, children's juice boxes and various snacks.  These items are  used as snacks for the children that are being seen in the Child Advocacy Center.

When children leave one foster home for another, they take all of their prized possessions and essentials and load them into trash bags and boxes. Easter Seals staff felt like the children needed luggage, backpacks, and duffel bags to transfer their belongings in a more respectful way.

We are looking for someone who has some hours to spare and would like to organize and scan pictures from the opening of Carobell's doors back in 1969 to present day.  The photos would need to be stacked and storage ready once scanning has been completed.  The person or persons who takes on this task must be well organized, able to build timelines from photos, have an eye for detail, be able to work without much directions, and be creative.  Carobell would like to find someone who is willing to see the job to the end.

Workshop Instructors provide information on financial planning to help expectant parents make decisions on necessary purchases, resource information, and other tips that can assist keeping finances in check.

Budget for Baby Assistants maintain the administrative tools necessary for the workshop to function; material preparation, registration of clients, etc. Excellent communication, computer/office equipment use, and works well in a group setting are desired.

Volunteers do need DOD vehicle decals/base access to volunteer with NMCRS Camp Lejeune. 

Interview clients to determine financial/non-financial needs. Personalized budgets are completed one-on-one counseling, resource/referral information. Excellent customer service, communication, and social service principle skills desired.

All training is provided. Depending on volunteer availability, the training to be able to perform casework on own could take 3-6 months.

If you are looking for community service, volunteer ribbons for military and/or youth programs, or even adding to your college application, Horse & Family Institute™ is here for you.  We are actively seeking volunteers!!  We are a nonprofit learning organization and it is critical to our success that we have volunteers that can help us in the care of the facilities, the animals, and with mentoring while keeping the growth of our company moving forward.  There are several opportunities and areas to volunteer in.  Whether you "like" horses or just a good cause like ours, there are many needs and positions that could use your time and touch.  These areas include, but are not limited to, Office and Administrative Support, Grant development (to include drafting and writing), Fundraising development, animal care, Program development, Curriculum development, Facilitator for classes, Class mentor, Grounds Maintenance, cleaning tack, hosting fundraising events, and Marketing. Some of these positions may/may not include web time.  Any and all support that is given is truly appreciated.

Volunteers may vary in age, knowledge, expertise and ability.  Typically, anyone can volunteer in some capacity or another, however, it is required of all volunteers to attend a six (6) hour volunteer training program prior to any volunteering so as to ensure that all are aware of the rules, regulations, and how the different areas can affect the ministry of Horse & Family Institute™.  Anyone who is 15 years of age or older may participate in the mentoring, however, an adult must accompany the classes as well.  For those 16 years of age and older, they may come without an adult.  Even if you are not old enough to be a mentor, there are still many things you can do to participate as listed above.

Looking for advocates who would like the opportunity to spend time with individuals with I/DD on a one-on-one basis.  Our Community Coordinator has planned out various activities, crafts and social activities for you and one  of Carobell's individuals to work on together.  Or maybe you have a special talent or ability you would like to share.  Either way, we are very flexible and can accomodate your availability, in most cases.   We offer training so you will  feel most effective with your interaction and in developing your relationship.  Please call or come by and see Jessica if you have questions.  We really hope you will.

AVID Tutorials are conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:15am - 10:30am with our 9th-12th grade AVID students. The Tutorial Process is set-up in such a way that you do not need to be an expert in any single subject area since it is the role of the tutor to ask questions that help the students use their resources to come to their own answer for the question. We need AVID Tutors for the following shifts:

A group of volunteers is needed to cleanout and organize storage unit to ensure easy access to items.  Also some items will be discarded.  If volunteers has a truck to transport items to the city dump, that would be helpful.  This job usually takes 3 to 4 hours to complete.

The Foundation for Hospice provides all forms assistance to people who are terminally ill who often do not have nor can afford items to make their last days comfortable.  So over the years, the Foundation for Hospice began collecting medical equipment and other items that they make available to people on loan free of charge.  These items are stored in a storage unit along with items use for our children's grief camp called Camp Butterfly and for the annual community memorial service. 

The volunteer will records statistics as game progresses.  Compiles team statistics as well as individual statistics.  They will report statistics to the head coach immediately after the game for announcement of results to the newspaper along with radio and TV sources.  Also sends a report of team and individual statistics to the league, coach’s owner, and team director.

The security persons are responsible for maintaining security on the grounds during game.  Work well with others.  There should be a security person at the gate and concession stand at all times.  In addition to those, there is a need for several security people walking the grounds.  Escort the person with the money to a safe place.

Raising Raiders is in search of volunteers who will help with our grassroots social media initiatives. This work can be done remotely and can be done from your own computer or smart phone.

All of the positions currently available involve direct contact with the public as exhibit interpreters - someone who brings our exhibits to life by telling visitors about the animals or by providing a "hands-on" learning experience.  Aquarium volunteers should be comfortable interacting with the public in an enthusiastic manner and be able to tolerate crowds and loud noise. 

Looking for an enthusiastic person or persons to be the overall manager of our Gift Shop at Onslow Memorial Hospital.  This person oversees the management of the shop. assists with sales, assists with purchasing and paying the bills.  The Gift Shop is totally managed and operated with a volunteer staff who are interested in helping people in many ways.  The shop is divided by responsibility to several different volunteers but we are looking for one main point of contact.  Sales provide resources to fund modern up to date equipment for Onslow Memorial.  Hours are flexible.  Rewards are great as hospital staff, patients and visitors are appreciative of the service that the shop provides.  A good opportunity for someone to gain management, leadership and sales experience.

Volunteers to go into the fields and gather seasonal vegetables and produce upon invitation from local and area farms. On average we would like to take 20 volunteers for each gleaning trip. Volunteers are expected to be able to lift 20 pounds, bring your own gloves and dress appropriately for working in the fields.

Volunteers will meet at Bell Fork Church of Christ on Bell Fork Road in Jacksonville and will be transported to the location of the gleaning trip.

Careful attention to detail is needed in this position. Volunteers will be pouring and serving beverages to pre-paid ticket holders. An approximate one hour training and question answer session will be held approximately two weeks prior to event.

Volunteers needed with good people skills and well organized to coordinate annual parade. Solicit area businesses and organizations to participate in parade. Collect entry fees, organize line up and coordinate line up on the day of parade.

Crystal Coast NC Sheep Dog Impact Assistance is a volunteer, non-profit dedicated to providing a civilian framework for trained emergency and military personnel to give back to society through Disaster Response and assisting our fellow Sheep Dogs in times of hardship.

We periodically hold fundraising events that serve multiple purposes. We hope they raise funds to support our Disaster Response work and enable us to assist our fellow Sheep Dogs in times of hardship. However, our events also bring awareness to the public about the service and sacrifice of the protectors, or "Sheep Dogs" of society. We help educate the public about what it takes to do the extraordinary jobs our men and women in the Military, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue and EMS do every day.

To perform these outreach functions, we require donations. Some of our events cost more to put on than we have been able to raise at the event. That doesn't mean the event isn't useful. It just means that it's not primarily an effective fundraiser.

We are constantly looking for private and corporate supporters who are willing to let their wallet do the talking. If you believe what we do is important, please help us by making a financial contribution. We accept donations for one-time events, for equipment used in disaster response, and for training.

Sheep Dog Impact Assistance is made up of former, retired and active military and emergency service personnel. We provide a civilian framework for trained personnel to extend their service to the community in times of Disaster and by Assisting Fellow Sheep Dogs in times of need.

It is our goal to provide a trained and ready team to deploy to the site of natural or man-made disasters. To do that, we have certain training requirements. One is that each team member be certified in Chainsaw Safety within the past six months.

As became evident during September 11th, 2001, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, our federal & local governments and relief organizations are not always equipped or prepared for such unexpected and widespread devastation. Sheep Dog’s aim is to bypass the slow-moving bureaucracy and red tape of larger organizations. Instead, its strength lies in small, localized, independent chapters made up of those already trained and ready to help: your community’s current and former military, emergency and law enforcement personnel.

Too many people lack a basic understanding of how to survive in a disaster situation. Our website was created to provide information on Sheep Dog and how people can support us, but just as important is the need to share and provide basic and detailed information on Survival and Disaster Preparedness.
