Volunteer: Eastern NC Regional Skills Center

We need volunteers! Please register with this "Sign Up" to volunteer for the ENCRSC Reality of Money event on Wednesday, December 17. We need a minimum of 26 volunteers during each session for this event to run smoothly. If you've ever paid bills or managed a family/personal budget, then you are more than qualified to volunteer! Here is a promotional video for the event if you want to see what it looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q39Y1HypcQk

This event will host roughly 160 students throughout a total of 2 sessions. You may volunteer for just 1, or both sessions listed. The first session begins at 7:30am. Volunteers for the first session should arrive at 7am to get checked in to the front office and receive a brief training session from SECU employees prior to the students arriving at 7:30. The 2nd session will begin at 10:20am. If you cannot attend the 1st session, please arrive a few minutes prior to the beginning of the 2nd session to get checked in to the front office and receive a brief training. Additionally, please sign up for each session you are able to attend so we can account for the number of volunteers.

This event is being held at the Eastern NC Regional Skills Center, located at 261 NW Corridor Blvd. Jacksonville, NC 28540. You must check in at the front office with a valid ID.

The Skill Center students will be participating in the Reality of Money Event, a program developed by the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) that illustrates the financial challenges of adult life. The program's goal is to help young people understand personal finances and the real-life implications of the choices they make as students and adults.

The Reality of Money places each student in a scenario where they are 25 years old and employed. However, students are assigned the path that life has taken them on. Some students find that they're earning $40,000 per year and are married with children, while others were single parents making less than $20,000 annually. They will visit twelve stations where they have to make financial decisions on items such as housing, childcare, transportation, etc. The State Employees’ Credit Union has prepared all the resources, and you will receive an overview of materials prior to the event.

Please reach out if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Kari Cobb
