Looking for a more team-oriented volunteer experience? Consider becoming an Activity Assistant Volunteer with Cardinal Hospice. These volunteers work with our Volunteer Coordinator to help Hospice patients make the most out of the activities and events going on in their communities. 

How it works: Our VC travels from community to community to host different fun activities for different skilled nursing facilities. Activity Assistant Volunteers travel with the VC to be a hands-on help to patients who would otherwise struggle to participate. This could mean pushing wheelchairs around in-house festivals, helping mark bingo cards, assisting in a craft, and so much more.

The final hours of life should be filled with peace, not loneliness. Cardinal Hospice is looking for Vigil Volunteers to provide a comforting presence for hospice patients during their transition. 

Your Role: To provide a comforting presence at the patient's bedside. This can be done though conversation, stoic silence, reading aloud, playing soft music, praying, etc. 

How it works: The volunteer coordinator will reach out to you when Vigil is needed with a location. If you choose to accept that Vigil, you will meet your VC at the location of the patient as soon as your schedules allow. This volunteer role moves quickly when called upon, but calls can come weeks apart or mere days.

The ability to remain calm in very emotional settings. 

We are seeking volunteers to provide companionship to Hospice patients in our community. If you have a listening ear, and a warm heart, we need you!! 

What you'll do: Visit patients, share stories, play board/card games, read aloud, watch tv together, make a new friend.

Why it's important: Many hospice patients suffer from social isolation. Companionship volunteers help keep the loneliness at bay. They are their patient's champions against the darkness. 

How it works: Our Hospice Volunteer Coordinator will ask you questions about what you are and are not comfortable with and use those answers to select an appropriate patient for you. The first time you visit your assigned patient, your Volunteer Coordinator will go with you to help introduce you and support you as needed. Afterwards, should you choose to visit that patient again, you are free to visit on your own as often as you would like.

Being a full-time caregiver is an act of profound love, but it can also be exhausting. We at Cardinal Hospice are looking for compassionate individuals to step in for just 2 hours once or twice a month, to give family caregivers the brief, essential break they need to recharge. 

As a Respite Volunteer, you are not there to provide any medical or personal cares to hospice patients, you are there to provide a supportive, watchful presence. Your visit allows a child, a spouse, or a friend to run an errand, take a nap, or just go and have some coffee, knowing that their loved one is not alone.

Our hospice patients are looking for more than just medical care; they are looking for connection.

We are seeking compassionate Pen-Pal volunteers to provide friendship, encouragement, and a sense of community to those navigating their final journey. 

Why your letters matter: 

Many of our hospice patients look forward to receiving handwritten letters from volunteers. It gives them a tangible thing that reminds them that they are seen, heard, and valued.
