Who We Are
We help Onslow County families in need at Christmas with food and items for their children. These items are given to us by our community and Toys for Tots. We help military families and civilian families who need assistance. We're a needs-based organization with an application and a review process.
Our origins began in the 1970's when a group of pastors wanted a vetted list of families that needed help. The "Welfare" office provided the list. Over time, the Kiwanis and the Onslow Human Services Council operated Cheer as a donation and distribution program before it became a stand-alone nonprofit.
After a bountiful year, the organizers of Christmas Cheer lamented that there are hungry people all during the year and pledged to open a soup kitchen. That was the origin of Onslow Community Outreach, to represent the congregations of good people in our county who want to help others. Now, Onslow Community Outreach operates a Soup Kitchen, Homeless Shelter, Housing and food programs and free medical and dental clinics.
What We Do
We provide toys and food to families in need from donations from the community and distribute that through volunteers who give a shopping experience for families when helping them select their items. After an application process, we allocate processes and distribute the charity of our community.
