Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary is a nonprofit rehabilitation center dedicated to the care of injured, orphaned, and displaced native North Carolina wildlife. Volunteers play a vital role in the daily operations of the sanctuary and assist with both releasable wildlife and our resident non-releasable education ambassadors.
As a volunteer, you’ll help with essential tasks such as cleaning enclosures, feeding and watering animals, socializing education ambassadors, and maintaining the grounds. For those who are sincerely motivated, there are opportunities to learn basic, intermediate, and advanced wildlife care and medical treatment skills.
Shifts are flexible-we welcome help on weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings-whatever fits your schedule. Whether you're earning service hours for school, clubs, scholarship programs, CCCC Service Learning, SAT programs, or SkillBridge Internships, you’ll gain hands-on experience while making a real difference.
If you're not afraid of hard work and want to support wildlife conservation in a meaningful, hands-on way, we’d love to have you on our team!
